What "Orphaned System" Means
It's not an official technical status, a manufacturer designation, a warranty condition, or an industry certification. It's plain language for one specific, common situation: your original installer is gone, unresponsive, or no longer offering service, and your solar system still needs someone who'll pick up the phone.
That happens more than people expect. Installers close, get acquired, stop answering, or simply stop servicing older jobs. None of that changes what your equipment is or what it's entitled to. It just means the company that put it on your roof isn't the company that's going to fix it anymore.
What Doesn't Change When Your Installer Disappears
- Your equipment's manufacturer warranty: Enphase, SolarEdge, SMA, and Generac warranties belong to your equipment, not your installer. An installer closing doesn't cancel a manufacturer warranty on its own.
- Your ownership of the system: the equipment is yours regardless of who serviced it last.
- Your eligibility for repair: you don't need a relationship with the original installer, or their permission, for another certified technician to diagnose and fix your system.
What usually does change: any installer-specific labor warranty ends when the company does, and monitoring portal access can get lost in the shuffle. Both of those are things we assess and, where possible, fix as part of the rescue.
How Orphaned System Rescue Works
- Contact Burnside: tell us what's wrong. No account transfer, no paperwork, no need to track down your old installer first.
- System assessment: we read whatever monitoring history and error data is available before we roll a truck.
- Diagnosis: on-system troubleshooting to isolate the actual fault, not just the symptom.
- Repair, RMA, or recommissioning: part replacement, manufacturer warranty claim, or a full recommission if the system's been neglected a while.
- System restored: photo-documented, with a plain-language explanation of what was wrong and what we did.
- Optional ongoing monitoring: if you want someone watching the system going forward, that's available. It's never required to get the repair done.
Common Questions
Does losing my original installer mean I lose my equipment warranty?
No. Manufacturer warranties belong to your equipment, not your installer. An installer closing doesn't cancel it on its own, though any installer-specific labor warranty does end when the company does. We'll help you figure out what's still active and file manufacturer RMA claims where they apply.
Do I need to be an Enphase or SolarEdge account holder for you to work on my system?
No. We diagnose and repair Enphase, SolarEdge, SMA, and Generac systems regardless of who installed them or who currently holds monitoring-portal access. If access was lost when your installer disappeared, recovering it is part of what we look at.
What if I don't know who my original installer even was, or what equipment I have?
That's fine. Tell us what you know (even just "my panels stopped working") and a technician will follow up. We can usually identify the equipment from photos or a site visit.
