One Optimizer Is Different From One Inverter
A SolarEdge system has one inverter and a power optimizer at every panel. That split matters for troubleshooting. If the whole array stopped producing, or the inverter's display is showing a fault, that's almost always the inverter. If one panel's production dropped or disappeared while its neighbors kept working fine, that's almost always its optimizer, not the system. Knowing which one you're dealing with before anyone shows up is the difference between a fast visit and a wasted one.
Both fail differently, get diagnosed differently, and get replaced differently. We start by figuring out which one we're actually looking at.
What We're Usually Looking At
- Whole-system production loss or an inverter fault code: the display is showing an error, or the SolarEdge monitoring portal shows the whole array flat.
- One or a few panels underperforming: everything else looks normal, but a specific panel's optimizer is reporting low, zero, or nothing at all.
- Panels that stopped reporting to the monitoring portal, whether or not production itself looks affected. Sometimes it's the optimizer. Sometimes it's just communications.
- Rapid-shutdown or safety-related fault codes on the inverter display.
How We Work a SolarEdge Call
We read the monitoring portal, at the optimizer level where it's available, before we roll a truck. That usually tells us whether we're chasing a bad inverter or one bad optimizer before we ever get on the roof. Once we've isolated the fault, we replace the failed part. SolarEdge optimizers have to be paired and recommissioned to the system after a swap; we do that as part of the same visit, not as a separate appointment.
What We're Certified On
Existing Systems Welcome
You don't need to have used us for the install. Most of the SolarEdge systems we work on, we didn't put in.
Original installer gone or no longer answering? We call that an orphaned system, plain language for the situation, not an official SolarEdge status. See Orphaned System Rescue → for how that works.
Warranty & RMA
If an inverter or optimizer needs replacing under warranty, we can diagnose the failure, document it, and install the replacement part once it's approved. SolarEdge decides what's covered and approves the claim. We do the field work.
